Ethics in education are essential as they help run the system smoothly. It sets the standards of what’s acceptable and what’s not hence protecting the interests of both the educators and the learners. It has been given a lot of importance over the years and institutions are designing courses that help students understand these ethics. They are applicable on both the instructors as well as the students. While it’s the teacher’s job to make the students aware about these ethics the school management often takes it upon them to familiarize the instructors with the ethics that are relevant to their profession.
An ethical leaders aim is to take morally right decision and need to be trustworthy who can differentiate between right and wrong.
Moreover, ethical leadership relates to leaders characters, actions and behaviour. Ethical leadership is leadership that is directed by respect for ethical beliefs and values and for the dignity and rights of others. It is thus related to concepts such as trust, honesty, consideration, charisma and fairness. Ethics is concerned with the kinds of values and morals an individual or a society finds desirable or appropriate. It is concerned with the virtuousness of individuals and their motives. A leader’s choices are also influenced by his moral development.
Moving on, unethical leadership is based on placing themselves first. They are behaviors conducted and decisions made by organizational leaders that are illegal and/or violate moral standards, and those that impose. Unethical behavior involves acts that are illegal and/or are morally inappropriate to larger society. Various terms have evolved in the literature, such as abusive supervision undermining. Research shows these leaders are oppressive, abusive, manipulative, and calculatingly undermining .Their actions are perceived as intentional and harmful, and may be the source of legal action against employers. Therefore, destructive leader behavior is unethical.
