The Industrial Revolution took place from the 18th to 19th centuries. During this period, rural societies in Europe and America that were based on agriculture, became industrial and urban. Before this Revolution, manufacturing was done in people’s homes, using handheld tools and even basic machines. People produced their own clothing, food, and furniture. Industrialization marked a shift to powered machinery, factories, and mass productions. The industries that played center roles in the Industrial Revolution were the iron and textile industries, and the development of the steam engine played a role as well. Britain had great deposits of coal and iron ore, had a politically stable society, and was the world’s leading colonial factor, all factors that contributed to Britain being the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.
