Young the Giant
Young the Giant is an American Alternative/Indie Rock band that formed in Irvine, California, in 2004. The band consists of Sameer Gadhia who is the lead vocalist, Eric Cannata who plays the guitar, Jacob Tilley who also plays the guitar, Payan Doostzadeh who plays the bass guitar, and François Comtois who plays drums. They all met each other during high school. They decided to put school on hold and focus on their music instead. Their decision wasn’t in vain; by early 2009, they were opening for Kings of Lean and playing shows at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. Months later, they were signed to road runner records. They were formerly known as “The Jakes” which was an acronym of the members first names then.
The Jakes changed their name to Young the Giant in January 2010 and began working on an album with producer Joe Chiccarelli, the self-titled debut album was released digitally on October 26, 2010. The album was released physically in the U.S. on January 25, 2011 and in the U.K. on May 2, 2011. Their former members include Ehson Hashemian who used to play the piano (2004-2009), Sean Fisher who used to play the drum (2004-2007), and Jason Burger who also used to play the drum (2007). The band’s first single “My body” was released to the U.S. radio in January and went number five on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The official video for the single was directed by Justin Francis and features actor Bryan James.
